OFF-ROADS, in its simplest sense, is a metaphysical and holistic exploration of the path less
trodden. Intrusive, offensive, and shrewd in nature, the concept of the shadow is as old as life
itself, but a distinctly human paradox. Jungian explorations into the Shadow's capacity for sin, Lacan’s notion of the divided subject and self-repression, all indicate the irrelevance of human enjoyment when faced with the question of the true inner self.
The exhibition consists of a series of objects, signals, and expressions that, by essence, dissect the carnal persona that is not only shrouded from the public eye, but often from our own consciousness as well.
Who are we? Are we safe? Predictable? What does it take for us to hurt someone?
In a Freudian understanding of the unconscious, OFF-ROADS explores the delicate dance
between urban conformity and the vessel of flesh in which we harbour primitive, aggressive
impulses that the ego and superego must repress and manage for public order.
In this light, the metaphysical body becomes a sort of muniment room, in which internal conflict and sensuality share a forbidden embrace, guarded by the shadows of our public performance and unwillingness to stray off the path we are assigned.
Common to his style, WAZA demolishes the notion of his self into a gory collage of all that makes him who he is today, complete with holistic elation, depressive battles, ritualism, captivity, and the never-ending search for true destiny. Best described as communal storytelling - timeless in nature, and carnal in essence - OFF-ROADS invites the audience to dissect the inner workings of the WAZAVERSE, and in its essence, find nothing but themselves.
